Playoff Positions Settled As Hi-Q’s Regular Season Ends- Garnet Valley Finishes First to Host Championship

Wins are a source of pride in Delco Hi-Q but points are coveted by teams hoping for a playoff appearance. The high scoring team moves directly to the Championship while the next six teams compete in a semi-final round to earn a place in the Championship. It all came down to the last three regular season contests to determine the playoff rankings.

Interboro Delco Hi-Q Team

Interboro hosted Cardinal O’Hara and Ridley High Schools to kick off the week on February 3. Ridley started strong and took an early 8 point lead over its competitors. Fortunes changed during the second half as the home team built momentum and took the lead late in the second half. A successful question appeal for Interboro added another four points. Final Scores: Interboro, 35; Cardinal O’Hara, 17; Ridley, 27

The ladies of Academy of Notre Dame hosted Archbishop Carroll and Strath Haven High School on February 4. Strath Haven picked up an early lead, which continued through the entire contest. Archbishop Carroll and Academy of Notre Dame remained neck and neck throughout

the contest, with Archbishop Carroll pulling ahead after an accepted appeal. Final Scores: Academy of Notre Dame: 18; Archbishop Carroll: 22; Strath Haven 53.

In the final contest of the regular season, Haverford High School hosted Radnor and Delaware County Christian School. All three teams were playoff contenders, so every point mattered. The contest started off successful for all, with no missed points until the Sports question. By the halfway point, the three teams were separated by just 5 points. Bonus points were not easy to come by, so the teams relied on answering their own questions correctly. In the end, the home

team took the win and Radnor and Haverford qualified for playoffs. Final Scores: Haverford: 54; Radnor: 43; Delaware County Christian School: 41.

With 21 contests complete, the playoff picture is clear. Garnet Valley led the regular season with 178 points total and will host the 72nd Championship on March 3.  Their opponents will be decided by two semi-finals contests. Second place Radnor, with 151 points, will host the sixth place Springfield and seventh place Marple Newtown on February 19. Third place Strath Haven, with 148 points, hosts fourth place team Penncrest and fifth place team Haverford on February 18.

Garnet Valley will host the Delco Hi-Q Championship.
