TWELVE LOCAL EDUCATORS AWARDED FMFCU FOUNDATION TEACHER MINI GRANTS

Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation announces the award of twelve mini-grants totaling over $5,500 in largest funding to date. The grant application was open to kindergarten through twelfth grade teachers to help fund innovative student-oriented educational experiences that might not otherwise be funded. The 2022-2023 Teacher Mini Grants are made possible by a grant from the Minford Foundation.

Grantee Dawn Murray of W.B. Evan Elementary School plans to start a monthly book club to support and improve foundational reading skills, phonemic awareness, coorehension and fluency. Reading Support students in class with Madeline Geller at William C. Lewis Dual Language Elementary will now use a set of books that introduce new phonics skills to help. These books use essential skills to help readers become fluent and confident in their skills. Teacher Colleen DiMaggio plans to use the funds for a new project at Southeast Delco School District where students learn to grow and bloom Phalaenopsis orchids and display them for judging. The main goal of this project is to spark an interest in youth about horticulture and the natural environment by educating them on how to raise and show orchids.

  • Shannon Murphy, Marple Education Center- Delaware County Intermediate Unit
  • Heather Wanner, Hillendale Elementary School- Unionville Chadds Ford School District
