Marple’s Cyclone Routs Competition; Nor’easter Forces Postponement

While arctic weather blew a tepid Hi-Q competition into the New Year, a Nor’easter forced cancelation of two competitions. Marple Newtown High School hosted the first meet of 2018, routing competitors Academy Park and Interboro with a commanding lead that built on opportunities to accumulate bonus points. Neither the Knights nor the Bucs could withstand the Tigers’ pounce. Hi-Q competitors are as determined to acquire cumulative points as they are about finishing first in individual matches. With just two missed questions Marple added 64 points to their cumulative score, as the season enters the second of three legs.

Final Scores: Marple Newtown 64; Interboro 18; Academy Park 16

Nor’easter Grayson closed schools Thursday and Friday, forcing postponement of Upper Darby’s home match with Cardinal O’Hara and Delaware County Christian School, and Chichester’s home match with Radnor and Ridley. Dates for both rescheduled competitions will be confirmed later this week.

Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast lunged to a win Monday, January 8, against host team Springfield and Sun Valley. The Friar & Panda combo earned maximum points in Current Events, History, and Science categories. Springfield was the only team to earn a bonus point for correctly answering an opponent’s missed question. Sun Valley proved fiercely competitive with a strong start and finish but was unable to earn enough points to capture a win.

Final Scores: Bonner & Prendie 30; Sun Valley 26; Springfield 18

Later this week, Penn Wood hosts Garnet Valley and The Christian Academy, and Valley Forge Military Academy will host Penncrest and The Academy of Notre Dame.
