Garnet Valley High School Delco Hi-Q team finished their 2015-2016 season in first place and captured the crown jewel in the Championship Round, the Donna Zerby Trophy. Named after the first National Director of the country’s oldest, continuous academic quiz competition, the coveted Donna Zerby Trophy represents more than academic prowess; it is symbolic of the hours of study and deliberate practice necessary to emerge as the best of the best among 21 participating Delaware County high schools.
This year’s champs advance to the National Hi-Q Championship slated for Wednesday, April 13, 2016 via teleconference. Established in Delaware County in 1948 under the auspices of Scott Paper Company, Hi-Q expanded to Washington in 1976, Wisconsin and Michigan in 1977, Maine in 1982, Arkansas in 1984, and Alabama in 1987. Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union has been the main corporate sponsor of Delco Hi-Q since 2004 and continues to garner local support for this and other academic endeavors.
Garnet Valley, along with all 21 Delco Hi-Q participating teams and the All-Delco Hi-Q Team, will be honored at the annual Partners in Education Celebration April 28, 2016 at Drexelbrook Corporate Events Center. Also being recognized at Pennsylvania’s premier academic banquet is this year’s Delco Hi-Q Hall of Honor Nominee, Excellence in Teaching Award recipients, John D. Unangst Scholarship recipients, Outstanding Student Leadership recipient, Financial Literacy Advocate, and more.
