Delco Hi-Q Begins Its 78th Season with Three Contests

December 5, 2025 — For almost eight decades, Delco Hi-Q has celebrated sharp minds, teamwork and Delaware County pride. The start of December marks a new season for Delco Hi-Q, the oldest, continuous academic quiz competition. The 78th Delco Hi-Q season got off to a thrilling start with three contests, showcasing the impressive teamwork Hi-Q is known for.

The season opener took place at Interboro High School, where the home team hosted Archbishop Carroll and Sun Valley High Schools. Interboro came out strong in the first round, quickly securing three bonus points and building a lead. By halftime, the home team had almost doubled the scores of both Carroll and Sun Valley. However, those two challengers remained neck and neck at the break, setting the stage for a tight finish. In the end, Interboro held on to their lead, securing the win, while Carroll and Sun Valley were only a few points apart. Final Scores- Interboro: 39; Archbishop Carroll: 21; Sun Valley: 24.

Wednesday’s match at Upper Darby High School featured three evenly matched teams, with Haverford and Radnor vying against the home team. Representative Gina Curry was in attendance and greeted the participants following the contest. All three teams were quick to get on the scoreboard, trading points throughout the first half. Haverford led at the break, but the win was still up for grabs as Radnor pushed hard in the second half. Ultimately, Haverford’s strong performance throughout the entire contest helped them secure the victory. Upper Darby, despite a strong first half, couldn’t close the gap. Final Scores – Upper Darby: 33; Haverford: 53; Radnor: 47

The final match of the week took place at Cardinal O’Hara High School, where Chester STEM and Chichester High Schools competed. The teams were closely matched from the start, with all three teams within three points—just one question—of each other at halftime. The second half remained just as tight, with Chichester edging out the competition and securing a hard-fought win. Final Scores – O’Hara: 20; Chester STEM: 23; Chichester: 26
