Back to School with FMFCU – Helping Local Students and Families Start the School Year Ready to Succeed

As families across the region prepare for a new school year, Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (FMFCU) is helping local students and families get ready for the season through community giving, employee volunteerism and financial education.

As part of FMFCU’s annual back-to-school efforts, the credit union hosted a supply drive at all FMFCU branch locations, bringing together members and employees to donate much-needed items for students to start the school year. The drive collected thousands of supplies, including notebooks, pencils, school bags and other classroom essentials. Donations were distributed to the Crime Victims Center of Chester County in West Chester and the Delaware County Health Department (DCHD), which provide children and families throughout the same communities FMFCU serves.

In the Philadelphia area, FMFCU’s Community Financial Education Department visited Pennell School in Philadelphia, where the team donated and distributed drawstring bags, rulers and folders to students and teachers.

“School supplies may seem simple, but for a student, they can make all the difference,” said Rick Durante, Executive Director, FMFCU Foundation and Vice President, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility & Government Affairs at FMFCU. “When a child starts the year with the tools they need, they walk into the classroom with confidence. These donations help ease the burden on families and remind students that their community is behind them.”

For families served by the Crime Victims Center, the supplies will help take one more expense off the plates of parents and caregivers navigating the challenges of abuse. In addition to supplies, FMFCU contributed $1,000 to DCHD in support of its annual Back to School Fair, which provides Delaware County students and families with school supplies and important health & wellness services.

FMFCU employees took action through volunteering with DCHD to help prepare for the fair by packing 400 school bags that will then be distributed to students at the event. The DCHD Back to School Fair offered backpacks and school supplies, vaccinations, school and sports physicals, vision and dental screenings, haircuts, and other resources to propel students into the new school year healthy and prepared.

FMFCU recognizes that preparing for a new school year can put additional pressure on family budgets. The credit union hosted a Back-to-School Budgeting Seminar, providing parents and caregivers with practical budgeting strategies, tips for managing school-related expenses, ways to save on supplies, and other tools for navigating the financial demands of the season.

Back-to-school spirit could also be found within FMFCU, as branches embraced the season with themed activities and decorations, bringing fun to members while celebrating students and families in the communities FMFCU serves.

Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union’s back-to-school efforts reflect its commitment to supporting local students, easing the burden on families, and helping communities start the school year prepared for success.
