10 TEACHERS AWARDED MINI-GRANTS TOTALING NEARLY FIVE GRAND

Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation announces the award of mini-grants totaling nearly five thousand dollars to ten teachers across the region. The grant application was open to kindergarten through twelfth grade teachers to help fund innovative student-oriented educational experiences that might not otherwise be funded. The 2020-2021 Teacher Mini Grants are made possible by a grant from the Minford Foundation.

As teachers are adapting to new circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many are in need of resources to make their lessons fit into new guidelines. Many projects and programs have been halted because of lack of funds and virtual/hybrid learning.

Grantee Lisa Ortolani, a teacher at Saint Luke Catholic School plans to use her award to purchase STEM Education kits. COVID 19 guidelines restricts group work, so these additional kits will allow all students to use the kit and continue their projects from March 2020. Students at Walnut Street Elementary School will learn the important role that worms play in the environment. Teacher Latanya Ingraham plans to purchase worms, compost bins, a pH meter, and bedding for the worms to show the importance of recycling and taking care of our world.

Grants were also awarded to these applicants:
