Hi-Q Round 1 concludes with Three Competitive Contests

December 20, 2024 (Chadds Ford, PA)– A week of three Hi-Q contests kicked off on Monday, December 16th, with an exciting match at Garnet Valley High School, where the home team hosted Upper Darby and Marple Newtown High Schools. Garnet Valley started strong, delivering a flawless first half by answering every question correctly. However, both Upper Darby and Marple Newtown came prepared for the second half, narrowing the gap quickly. Marple Newtown took the lead after winning the Team Choice Toss-Up, inching ahead. The lead switched back and forth throughout the final few categories. Ultimately, it came down to the last question in Math—a Toss-Up. Marple Newtown buzzed in before the clock even started, securing the points and claiming the win. Final Scores- Garnet Valley: 49; Upper Darby: 45; Marple Newtown: 50

On Wednesday, the competition moved to Ridley High School, where Cardinal O’Hara and Chichester High Schools competed in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Chichester led for much of the first half, but Ridley rallied, picking up crucial bonus points that propelled them into the lead. Despite Chichester’s early dominance, Ridley’s strong second-half performance earned them the victory. Final Scores – Ridley: 32; Cardinal O’Hara: 17; Chichester: 20.

The final contest of the week—marking the conclusion of the first round—took place at Delaware County Christian School, with the audience filling the seats for a thrilling showdown. The reigning champion, Delaware County Christian School, was determined to defend their title against Springfield and Haverford High Schools. The home team held the lead by halftime, with Springfield and Haverford working hard to catch up. Springfield even managed to correctly answer the Team Choice Toss-Up, but it wasn’t enough. Delaware County Christian held on to their lead, securing the win and continuing their winning streak. Final Scores- Delaware County Christian School: 57; Springfield: 34; Haverford: 36

The first round concluded with a series of close and competitive matches, setting the stage for an exciting second round of Delco Hi-Q. Contests will resume on January 8 at Radnor High School.
